Turk’s recently performed a VW Routan collision repair on the right side of the minivan. The body damage on the VW was along the lower half, across the doors, pillars, side panel, rear wheel and tire.
VW Routan collision repair is very similar to doing auto body repair on the Dodge Caravan, or Chrysler Town and Country, because they share the same platform.
While some of the body panels have subtle differences, others are the exact same as their siblings, except they have different part numbers. When the new VW body parts arrive, their packaging even has the familiar Mopar branding.
According to the “VW Routan wiki page“, The Volkswagen Routan is a seven-seat minivan and rebadged variant of the fifth-generation Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country. The VW Routan was manufactured alongside the Chrysler and Dodge minivans at Windsor Assembly and marketed in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The VW Routan debuted at the 2008 Chicago Auto Show in 2008. The VW Routan’s minivan variants include the Dodge Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country, that by 2009 had ranked as one of the bestselling automotive nameplates worldwide, with over 12 million sold! The Routan marked the start of Volkswagen’s business strategy to offer additional vehicles specially developed for the U.S. market. The introduction of the VW minivan resulted from a partnership between Volkswagen and DaimlerChrysler.
The Car & Driver Review on the VW Routan reads: “German engineering improves the breed”, and goes on that “There really is German engineering here, and at least some development in faraway Wolfsburg. The project produced positive results. The Routan’s moves are more decisive than those of the Chrysler versions, and its ride is more Euro firm than U.S. creamy. The interior preserves Chrysler’s clever Stow ’n Go third-row seats but adds more support to the front buckets and a distinctive look to the trim.”
